Memorial Day message

23-May-2014

Dear fellow SCOPE members;

As we come upon this Memorial Day weekend, let us remember why we celebrate it in the first place. It is a time to remember and honor those who have given their lives for us to live free. So while you are spending time with loved ones and enjoying the new air in NY, give some of your time to remember those who gave so much more. Visit a veteran's grave, have a moment of silence before eating, or look at the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance with your family.

If you are looking for some last minute plans this weekend, try visiting Waterloo, birthplace of Memorial Day; or stop down to Palmyra for their Remembrance Parade. After the parade, the patriotic band - Igor & the Red Elvises - will be performing live in the Palmyra Village Park, just off Main St, at 3:00pm. Bring family! Bring friends! Bring your picnic! Hot dogs, water, soda, and snacks will be available for purchase in the park starting at 2:00pm. This concert is a Memorial Day gift compliments of Historic Palmyra's Pirates of the Erie Canal, Allegany Insurance, Van Parys Insurance, and the Village of Palmyra Celebrations Committee.

While you are at your local NY events, be sure to wear a SCOPE t-shirt and feel free to distribute our membership applications. Print one off and cut them into three. Convince those who do not participate in voting to register or commit now to VOTE IN NOVEMBER, while they are honoring those who dies to ensure we had a democratic process.

The Wayne County Chapter of SCOPE wishes you and your family a happy Memorial Day and a safe and enjoyable weekend. If it wasn't for those who have fallen, this country couldn't stand.

Sincerely:

Johnathan Celso
Chairman - Wayne County Chapter
